So after yesterdays tears it made me thing about why fiction can be upsetting. In a world of practical requirements, financial demands, responsibility for the well being of staff and citizens, the opportunity to become absorbed in a world were you are a voyeur is very appealing. But why do I become so consumed?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t thing I am the Doctor, or Helikaon, of McLeod, or Jon Shannow, or Druss, or any of the other people that live in the stories I love, but I can relate to them. They live how I would like too, they have the values I aspire too. So when bad things happen I feel how I would feel.
My passion and drive, is reflected in the people I relate too, I can’t imagine not ever being able to see Belle again, or losing my memory, being alone or not being able to protect the ones I love.
So is relating, escaping, I don’t think so, it in fact heightens your understanding, and make you focus on what is important. If the cost of being true to myself is a few tears, then so be it.
On a lighter note, the final Cider tasting.
Westons – Premium Organic Cider – 6.5% - Herefordshire
So what does organic taste like, the true is this is no different to other fizzy ciders, in fact it is a bit disappointing. I had hoped for more apple, but it just not there, the fizzy over powers the taste with an unnecessary gassy taste. It is the last in this taste test, and just does not match up.
So the final lists rankings are:
Overall
Poire – St Helier Pear Cider – 5%
2006 Vintage – Henney’s - 7%
Bulmers Original – 4.5% - Herefordshire
Katy – Thatchers – 7.4%
Frome Valley – Henney’s Dry Cider – Herefordshire – 6%
Westons Vintage Special Reserve – 8.2%
Westons – Premium Organic Cider – 6.5% - Herefordshire
Kopparberg Pear – 4.5% - Swedish
Kopparberg Cider with mixed fruit– 4.0%
And it’s the Pear that takes it, in the apple contest the Henney’s vintage is excellent, but for a refreshing summer time drink, the pear has it.
Game, set and what a match.
It has been billed as a great day for British sporting events, the Men’s Final at Wimbledon and the Grand Prix at Silverstone (see Fusecar league link).
I have not watched much of this years tennis, in truth I have not watched much tennis since it became more about power, and less about touch. But today’s final had it all, how often is a Man U v Chelsea or Liverpool v Arsenal match a disappointment as they cancel each other out? Well not today, the numbers 1 and 2 in the world, brought the best out of each other. Yes there was some phenomenal power, but it was directed perfectly. There was touch, flare and that never say die that always appeals to me. It was the best game I have ever seen! I suggest we forget about the other rubbish and just have these two playing 1 game at each grand slam!
